The inaugural national Jerwood/Photoworks Awards will seek outstanding proposals from UK-based artists and photographers in relation to new approaches to photography.
Three Awards of £5,000 each will be made to support the making of new work, alongside a mentoring programme, access to a significant production fund, and a group exhibition in London as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme at Jerwood Space (from November 2015) with a subsequent UK exhibition tour.
The call for entries opens on 8 October, alongside the launch of Brighton Photo Biennial 2014, also produced by Photoworks. Entries will close on 1 December 2014 and work from all shortlisted artists will be published on the Photoworks website in December.
The selection panel includes:
Celia Davies, Director, Photoworks
Shonagh Manson, Director, Jerwood Charitable Foundation
Broomberg & Chanarin, artists
Lucy Moore, Director, Claire de Rouen Books
The three selected artists will be announced in January 2015.
A high profile pool of mentors from artistic, curatorial, literary and other perspectives will support the selected artists for twelve months after selection, drawing on established talents from varied fields of practice. Both the Photoworks and Jerwood Visual Arts teams will work with and support the artists throughout 2015.
