Liz Gilmore, Director, and David Pennock, Chairman, were delighted to welcome Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, on his first visit to Jerwood Gallery, Hastings and give him a tour of the Jerwood Collection and a preview of Chantal Joffe: Beside the Sea. He was accompanied by Amber Rudd, MP for Hastings & Rye,
Mr Javid said:
“In the few years since this beautiful gallery opened in 2012, the Jerwood has gone from strength to strength and is now a world-class arts venue. As well as a steady stream of first-rate exhibitions, the exquisitely designed building also houses a fabulous Modern British and contemporary collection, including works by big names such as Walter Sickert and LS Lowry.
"I’m thrilled that people in the region have this sort of art to enjoy on their doorstep but it’s also clear the gallery has transformed the cultural reputation of Hastings and draws in large numbers of visitors from afar.”
